We Are The Villagers

WE ARE THE VILLAGERS

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we believe the village includes all of us.

At WE ARE THE VILLAGERS our mission is to provide financial assistance to children from low income homes to participate in recreational, artistic and cultural programs, and to provide mentoring and counseling to those who request it.

With our help children from these homes will be able to participate in activities with their peers enabling them to develop new skills and abilities while enhancing their self-esteem and self-worth.
At WE ARE THE VILLAGERS we believe that strong, compassionate connections within the community are integral to the success of the children we support and the success of the community they live in. We strive to ensure that everybody in our village, not only the children benefit.

We are proud to say that since receiving charitable status in June 2012 we have:

• Raised over $100,600 with creative fundraising events such as fashion shows and themed dinner parties
• Approved over 150 children in activities of their choice and already have heard of marvelous success stories
• Created a unique platform to cooperate with existing charities, in an effort to partner rather than compete, in effect creating more benefits for the participating children
• Have begun to expand from Midland to Barrie, Orillia, Alliston, Stayner, Wasaga Beach and Coldwater
• Partnered with Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart program nationwide.

To continue to build on these successes we need you to join us. Help make your village a better place to grow and live in by contributing your time, your knowledge, your experience or make a financial contribution.

To help children reach their potential and generate an optimistic outlook we must set an example by being role models and providing a helping hand ourselves when we can.
Become a part of your village by supporting your young villagers.

Please share this information with your families, friends and collegues

Spring Décor Trends: Bring the beach house home

(NC) Why wait any longer for the full colour of spring?
While the trees thaw and the sun is shining earlier in the mornings, most of us admit we are eager for more. So why not a fresh coat of paint inside your home? It might just be the quickest way of banishing the winter doldrums to give you a fresh start to spring.
Though do-it-yourself painting is one of the least expensive options to spruce up your home, choosing the right colour palette can be a daunting and nerve-wracking task. Not all homeowners have access to a professional designer's eye, so for ease with choosing colours, Para Paints has released what they call their Colour Trend Palette Postcards for 2014. This tool is formatted as a handy passport and all of the trends evoke a sense of escape from the icy cold winter.
One palette, or colour trend destination is called Beach House, which suggests leading with a cheerful and sunny yellow, like Para's chosen colour of the year, Plantain Chips (PF52), and matching it with grey neutrals. Adding accent colours of bright blues and greens provides the perfect complement to create an overall seaside inspired room.
Another tropical option can be found in Island Escape, a palette built around Tahitian Pearl (PF65), a dark and vivid South Sea teal. This colour made a strong showing last year and continues into 2014, especially when paired with bright berry shades and vibrant oranges, while offset with a neutral white.
These newest palettes provide the inspiration for refreshed and rejuvenated rooms without the guesswork of choosing complementary colours.
”It can be expensive to completely redo a room, so the trick is to find a starting point for a colour refresh in your existing décor scheme,” says Garry Belfall, the senior brand manager at Para Paints. “The 2014 Colour Trend Palette Postcards are designed to help people see how vibrant colours and complementary neutrals can work together.”
It can be as simple as switching out one or two of your colour choices from an accent wall, rug, or even couch cushions. It can make a world of a difference.

Students can put money in their pockets by filing their taxes

(NC) – Post-secondary education is expensive. Every semester starts with tuition payments and textbook purchases. You may need a new laptop and school supplies – and don't forget about all the coffee you'll need to survive the all-nighters when cramming for exams. These costs can pile up, and will have you sifting through the couch cushions for all the coins you can find.
On top of all the stress of classes, exams, and managing your money, you also have to file a tax return. This may sound arduous, but be aware that for most students, filing an income tax and benefit return can help you save money, and it can also unlock some benefit payments.
When you file your tax return, you can claim education, tuition, and textbook amounts, as well as your transit passes if you take public transit—even moving expenses if you moved to be closer to school. You can also apply for tax credits such as the GST/HST credit, which can mean a payment of up to $70 every three months to help you keep on top of your expenses. Information about credits and benefits for students at tax time can be found at www.cra.gc.ca/students.
Do yourself a favour and file your tax return even if you have no income to report.  Even if you don't need to use your tuition, education, and textbook credits, you can transfer all or a portion of these credits to a parent to offset some of his or her taxes, or carry forward these amounts to reduce your taxes in future years. Without filing your income tax and benefit return, you can't get your GST/HST credit or any other federal or provincial tax benefits. And make sure you're signed up for direct deposit so you're getting your money faster, directly into your bank account.
