Dance pro 'tries it on' for bladder control solutions

(NC) Professional dancer Cheryl Burke is the latest celebrity to join the Try It On Canada challenge. Ms. Burke tried on Depend Silhouette under a sultry dance costume to highlight the sleek, brief-like fit – and to help give the millions of Canadians living with bladder control issues the confidence to enjoy an active lifestyle.

“I've always been passionate about encouraging women to feel good about themselves in all aspects of their lives,” says Burke, two-time champion of Dancing with the Stars. “I jumped at the chance to try on the women's absorbent briefs because I wanted to show women that if I can comfortably wear them under my dance costume, they can wear them too.”

Approximately 3.3 million Canadians are affected by bladder control issues, but for many it's a taboo subject because of feelings of self-consciousness and embarrassment. The Liberty Interview: Patricia Schwimmer

It was a sunny and warm August morning. I drove along the tree canopied street to a quaint home cuddled up on the river in Wasaga Beach.  Massive snowball hydrangeas greeted me and a smiling face, Artist,Patricia Schwimmer, famous Canadian and the beach's best kept secret. A gem. An art treasure; tucked inside a lovely home filled with fresh vignettes and original art.  Airy and open to the decks leaning over a lush fern hill. Baskets filled with beach flip flops scattered about at each doorway - Ducks floating by at the waterfront. Green tea, art studio and shells.  Wish you could have joined Patricia and I, but alas...this is not possible (Yet....she may be hosting a "Sunrise to Sunset Art Retreat Day" or a "Wine and Paint" evening soon - in her home! - stay tuned). I had the pleasure of interviewing and photographing Patricia today - at her home and Petals in Thyme. She heads to NY tomorrow for her art exhibit (of abstracts!) opening - details below.

Tall Ships Sailing Past in Wasaga Beach

Collingwood, Owen Sound and Wasaga will all participate in the Tall Ship 1812 Tour the weekend of August 16-18, one of several Tall Ship stops throughout the summer.

Owen Sound will host four ships and Collingwood will host three different ships, two of which will do a sail past in Wasaga Beach on the Friday night of Wasaga Under Siege. They will return to Collingwood later Friday night. Deck tours of three Tall Ships will be offered in Collingwood for a small fee.

Wasaga under Siege “A War of 1812 Experience” is an annual living history festival commemorating a War of 1812 battle between Americans, British and First Nations which resulted in an American victory with the sinking of the British schooner Nancy. This historic event eventually led to the modern day creation of Nancy Island Historic Site located in present day Wasaga Beach, Ontario. This three day heritage festival managed and operated entirely by volunteers’ features authentic War of 1812 tactics, historical battles, marine assault landings, artillery, and much more. A professional public address announcer narrates each battle event as a series of fictional and historical battle scenarios are presented to the public. The Grand Encampment at Nancy Island Historic Site features over 300 re-enactors opening their living history encampments to the public along with 19th century merchants, artisans, demonstrators, entertainers, live period musical entertainment and much more. Wasaga under Siege “A War of 1812 Experience” allows the local community the opportunity to come together and commemorate its rich local history and in turn creates long-lasting sustainable community bonds through the promotion and preservation of local history.
